These days, every cellphone comes with a camera, you can buy a point-and-shoot digital camera for under $100 and high-end DSLRs and mirrorless cameras capture amazing photos. Considering that digital images appear instantly, you can edit and share them online or print them an infinite number of times without losing quality, there’s little reason to use an old-fashioned film camera. According to an article from Yahoo! News, Americans bought 35 million rolls of film last year....

So you've got the camera set up, your talent is miked up perfectly, and the shot looks stunning. Your audio guy (or perhaps you if you've got a small crew) slips on the headphones, and that's when he hears it. The windstorm that seems to be blowing a hurricane force wind directly into your mic. In case you happened to be living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, Blackmagic Design has announced two more cameras to their lineup. Not only were they able to do what Red wasn't by offering a 4k camera for $4k, but they also introduced a Super16 pocket camera. Once again, the show floor at NAB was abuzz about Blackmagic. At NAB 2013, and in the weeks following, I have heard three myths repeated in casual conversation, and on podcasts, that are simply not true. Here is what you need to know...

Having multiple shooters at an event is beneficial because it allows the event to be captured at different angles. One shooter might catch something significant that another shooter missed; therefore, it is always good to have an extra pair of eyes while shooting a big event. However, having multiple shooters means multiple cameras and it is important that the timestamps in all the cameras used at the event are synced to one another. This will save you a lot of time in post-production when you have to cull and edit your images because the images from all the shooters will be organized together. You will be able to see the same scene shot at different angles, which can help you select the best image for each particular scene...

In going through a dry run for a shoot we were prepping for, I realized that the ALZO DSLR Video HDMI and Stereo AUDIO Cable Kit I was using could be a useful tip for some. These HDMI and Stereo Audio Cables have a right angle connector offset to keep the ports on your camera clear. The shortened cord length provides minimal excess to prevent extra feet of dangling cables....
